Make your own Phonics Dice

Dice game ideas:

- Check out the dice games at MES English for some great ideas how dice can be incorporated into various classroom games.

- You can use the dice with any board game that you already have. If you want to also create custom board games you can make phonics board games with your own text at Tools for Educators or there are 6 ready to print board games at MES English.

- Play a simple game of points. Each player rolls the dice. They tally the points as they go. Play 6-10 rounds and the player with the highest point total is the winner. To make it interesting, make 2 a 'go again' number where the player gets a second turn. Play with 2 dice, but make doubles a bankruptcy for example. All the while, reading the text or phonics rules on the dice as you go along.

- Use multiple dice and play a game like, Yatzee. You'd need 5 dice per group. It's a dice game where players take turns rolling five dice to achieve the highest score over 5+ rounds. Each turn, a player can roll up to three times, choosing which dice to keep or reroll. After rolling, they must select a scoring category, such as number totals (e.g., all 3s), special combinations (e.g., full house, straights like poker rules), or Yahtzee (five of a kind, worth 50 points). The player with the highest total score at the end wins. All the while reading the dice or the phonics rules for each roll.
